12th International Yoga Day Celebrated on the Theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ Across Lucknow

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak Calls Yoga India’s Priceless Cultural Heritage

Lucknow: The 12th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, energy, and public participation across Lucknow on Sunday under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Thousands of citizens joined yoga sessions organized at multiple locations across the district, reaffirming their commitment to healthy living and holistic well-being.

The district-level flagship programme was held at the historic Residency Campus, Lucknow, under the joint aegis of the District Administration and the AYUSH Department. Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, attended the event as the chief guest and participated in the mass yoga session alongside public representatives, government officials, and citizens.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister described yoga as India’s invaluable cultural heritage and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving yoga a new global identity through sustained efforts at the international level. He emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic practice that promotes physical fitness, mental peace, and spiritual well-being.

He also called upon people to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine and contribute to transforming it into a mass movement for a healthier society.

Live Telecast of Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s Address

During the programme, participants watched the live telecast of the addresses delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Both leaders highlighted the significance of yoga in promoting healthy lifestyles and its role in building a stronger and healthier nation.

The Residency campus witnessed an overwhelming response, with a large number of participants performing yoga postures and breathing exercises under expert guidance.

Yoga Sessions Organized Across the District

Apart from the main event at the Residency, yoga programmes were conducted at numerous locations throughout Lucknow. At Janeshwar Mishra Park, Union Minister of State B.L. Verma participated in the celebrations. Special yoga sessions were also organized at Jhandewala Park, Lalbagh, under the aegis of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation.

Several municipal parks, including Gulab Park (Chandan Nagar, Alambagh), Swarn Jayanti Park (Indira Nagar), Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Park (Gomti Nagar), Lalji Tandon Park, and Maharana Pratap Park, hosted community yoga sessions attended by residents and public representatives.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) also organized large-scale yoga programmes at Globe Park, Smriti Upvan, Janeshwar Mishra Park, Zonal Park Kanpur Road, Gautam Buddha Shanti Upvan Park, and GPO Park, among other locations.

Rural Areas Join the Celebration

The spirit of International Yoga Day extended beyond the city limits, with yoga programmes being organized in rural and semi-urban areas, including Bakshi Ka Talab, Mal, Mohanlalganj, Kakori, Sarojininagar, Gosainganj, and Chinhat development blocks. Similar events were held at tehsil headquarters and Nagar Panchayat areas, where citizens, elected representatives, and government officials participated in large numbers.

These programmes aimed to spread awareness about the health benefits of yoga and encourage people from all walks of life to embrace it as a way of life.

Leaders Participate in Mass Yoga Session

The Residency programme was also attended by Members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Ramchandra Pradhan and Umesh Dwivedi, who joined the mass yoga session and interacted with participants.

The event concluded with a collective commitment by citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily lives and promote its benefits within their communities. Organizers emphasized that the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” reflects the growing importance of maintaining physical vitality, mental resilience, and overall wellness throughout life.

The large-scale participation across Lucknow demonstrated the increasing popularity of yoga and reinforced its role as a powerful tool for building a healthier, happier, and more harmonious society.
